The story behind the artwork
The Black Stone is an Islamic relic situated in the eastern corner of the Kaaba. It is the most venerated stone in the world as it is touched, kissed, and pointed at during a ritual at hajj where millions of Muslims from around the world unite to perform the pilgrimage every year in Mecca.
According to Islamic sources, it was a heavenly stone given to Prophet Adam (PBUH) in his fall to earth, serving as a guide to the first place of monotheistic worship (the Kaaba). It was whiter than milk, but the sins of humanity over time turned it black.
