The story behind the artwork
Intifada is an Arabic word that means ‘’Shaking off.’’ It refers to Palestinian uprisings against the Israeli Occupation. When the state of Israel was established in 1948, 1 million Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homeland and more than 500 Palestinian villages destroyed. This occupation is illegal under international law. Ever since Israel’s establishment (backed by billions of U.S tax dollars), Palestinians have faced countless human rights violations and systematic ethnic cleansing.
